Flash Tutorials for Biological Sciences
This website from Carnegie Mellon contains a suite of multimedia course materials designed to improve the understanding of key concepts taught in undergraduate biology and biochemistry. Interactive Flash animations focus on four main areas: cell membranes, transport, DNA/RNA, and endocytosis, a process in which many macromolecules are taken into the cell. Virtual labs and experiments, which encourage student-directed learning and data analysis, center on protein purification and protein folding. Simulations that model molecular behaviors help explain ligand binding, osmosis, and other molecular interactions. The labs and animations can be used as stand-alone tools or in conjunction with an online Modern Biology course, which covers topics found in the fields of cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics. The course is available to the public, together with other courses in chemistry, physics, and computational mathematics.
