Designing Scientific Posters
4 comments
This online publication is a resource for creating interesting and visually appealing posters that communicate scientific research clearly and effectively. The text, written in a conversational tone, explains what to include in a scientific poster and what to omit. It also details each aspect of the production process—from choosing and using software (with links to page layout applications and a downloadable PowerPoint poster template) to using art, color, images, and sound for bird songs or other audio subjects. Photographs of posters and poster sessions enhance the tutorial. Helpful tips for preparing rough drafts, avoiding common mistakes, and presenting the poster at a conference are also part of this comprehensive tutorial.

Summary: Swarthmore College is a private baccalaureate institution in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Its HHMI-funded initiatives include:
- A summer undergraduate research fellowships program that fosters interdisciplinary research collaborations and provides undergraduate students with varied research opportunities and the chance to present their research at conferences;
- A peer-teaching project, Science Associates, that selects and trains successful former introductory biology students to facilitate peer learning in small groups;
- Science for Kids, a summer and academic-year program involving undergraduates as teachers and mentors for elementary school children from the nearby city of Chester; and
- Biomedical postdoctoral fellowships to mentor future faculty and enhance Swarthmore's curriculum, and networks for regional college faculty in microbiology and cell biology.
