Understanding Evolution for Teachers
A well-organized guide to all facets of learning and teaching evolution, this website from the University of California Museum of Paleontology offers one-stop shopping for K-16 teachers. Users can access the vast amount of material at any point along the continuum, but the site also offers a “If you are not sure where to start, start here” section that poses a series of questions to guide the user’s experience. The Evolution 101 section, divided into “basic” and “explore further” categories, offers nut-and-bolts information on the mechanisms, patterns, and other details of how evolution works. Other sections deal with the history of evolutionary thought, the lines of evidence supporting evolution, and misconceptions and potential pitfalls. The “teaching evolution” section encourages teachers to focus on fundamentals and concepts before selecting lessons from the large database of available classroom resources. The website also contains a link to the home page of Understanding Evolution, a comprehensive resource for the general public that explains how evolution impacts people's lives.
