Physics for Life Sciences Wiki
This wiki (a wiki is a website designed to let many people collaborate by adding and editing content) is a growing collection of information and resources for teaching physics for life sciences at the college and university level. Physics educators at Haverford College and other institutions working to reform introductory physics to better prepare students for careers in medicine and the life sciences developed this wiki. They seek ideas, comments, and contributions from others interested in reform. The wiki includes sample courses and curricula, laboratories, assessments, and other teaching and learning resources with life science applications in physics. The lab portion of the wiki, for example, includes links to Haverford College’s life science and medical physics teaching labs, biological physics labs from Johns Hopkins University, MIT’s bioengineering labs, and labs at several other colleges and universities. This wiki also contains documents from a Conference on Physics in Undergraduate Quantitative Life Science Education that was held at George Washington University in October 2009, as well as news about upcoming conferences and events. An HHMI report that sparked some of the debate about physics education reform, Scientific Foundations for Future Physicians, is available within this database.

Summary: Haverford College is a private baccalaureate institution in Haverford, Pennsylvania. Its HHMI-funded educational initiatives include:
- A new concentration in scientific computing, and help from a visiting scholar to develop new ways to incorporate quantitative elements into undergraduate science courses;
- The development of biologically oriented courses of study in the chemistry and physics departments, leading to concentrations in biochemistry and biophysics, formal programs of classroom and laboratory training at the interface between the physical and biological sciences;
- A Computer Science Education Summer Institute, a one-week program designed to help K-12 Philadelphia-area teachers reflect on the role of computing in education;
- The Haverford/Bryn Mawr Summer Institutes for K-12 teachers, which allow college faculty and precollege teachers to share perspectives on enhancing science and mathematics education throughout the curriculum and at all levels of the educational enterprise;
- The Haverford Summer Science Institute, a five-week bridge program that offers students from under-represented minority groups—or from families with little or no college experience—an introduction to college-level coursework in a small classroom setting;
- A Postdoctoral Fellows Program to provide teaching and mentoring opportunities for up to eight fellows, and
- Faculty workshops targeting curriculum development and scientific imaging techniques to support and expand faculty expertise.
