Job Summary:

At the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), creativity and excellence are fundamental to our success. We have an opportunity for a Research Technician in the Meyer lab at the University of California Berkeley (http://mcb.berkeley.edu/labs/meyer/index.html) to conduct experiments in epigenetics, functional genomics, and developmental biology of higher eukaryotes.

Principal Responsibilities:

Major research responsibilities will include targeted genome-editing experiments, genome-wide molecular analysis of protein binding and gene expression, genetic analysis, and high-resolution microscopy to probe the evolution and biochemical mechanism of X-chromosome-wide gene regulation across nematode species. The individual must be independent and willing to work in a research team, be organized, enjoy problem solving, and have strong communication skills.  Regular research presentations in lab meetings will be expected.   

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Sciences (preferably Biology or Chemistry).
  • Extensive experience in the genetics and molecular biology of eukaryotes.
  • Superb experimental skills, including at least two years of full-time laboratory experience.
  • Extensive experience in the genetics and molecular biology of eukaryotes.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.  Ability to work independently and effectively, while being engaged in multiple collaborative projects.
  • Experience with C. elegans is desirable. 
  • Skills in computational biology.
