Job Summary:

HHMI has a new opportunity for a Compensation Analyst to join our Human Resources department at our headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD. This position serves as a key contributor in the compensation group and maintains a high level of integrity and confidentiality in performing his or her duties. The ideal candidate will provide critical compensation support and analysis to meet the needs of the institute’s compensation team.

As the Compensation Analyst, you will be part of a dynamic and talented team of professionals. Energetic number lovers are encouraged to apply! The ideal candidate will work with the HRIS team to support compensation. They will conduct compensation surveys and analysis and research for cost and employee impact and emerging trends in the market, coordinate with vendors and IT and contribute to the development and upgrade of new systems applications as they impact compensation applications, coordinate the market analysis process, and prepare and distribute reports and communications materials for the Salary Planning process.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market analysis for job evaluations.
  • Manage the salary survey program. Write reports to produce data and complete surveys. Prepare and analyze survey results.
  • Conduct research related to developing and/or revising compensation programs and plans. In doing so, prepare data and submit survey materials, obtain and analyze surveys, research federal/state regulations and determine cost impact on HHMI.
  • Participate in the Salary Planning process. Maintain software and files to support process. Program and circulate data input materials to HQ and field. Generate reports to secure executive and Board approval. Implement approved salary increases to payroll.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Institute organizational chart library.
  • Work with HRIS team to support compensation. Coordinate with vendors and IT from inception through implementation and refinement stages. Contribute to the development and upgrade of other new systems applications as they impact compensation applications, from needs analysis through user acceptance testing and implementation and refinement stages.
  • Design and prepare reports to support various compensation analyses.
  • Analyze compensation plans for costs and trends and provide models for HHMI budgetary purposes.
  • Act as resource for employees and management in interpreting compensation plans, collecting and analyzing data and resolving issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, IT or equivalent experience required.
  • CCP certification preferred.
  • Two to four years experience in compensation required. Knowledge and experience of various report writers (e.g., ReportSmith, Crystal), Microsoft Office Suite. COGNOS experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Human Resources systems preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office package.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to document project plans, prepare systems requirements, draft outlines for training materials, prepare presentations and provide instruction to internal and external resources working on HR systems projects.
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain good working relationships among internal and external resources.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Planning, organizational and the management skills required to develop project work plans, and coordinate/direct the internal and external support needed to accomplish HR systems projects.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member and exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and work to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Must pay strong attention to detail and be able to review and audit data.
  • Must have good time management skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and anticipate and meet deadlines.
