Job Summary:

HHMI has a new opportunity for a Benefits Communications Specialist to join our Human Resources department at our headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD.
This position serves as a key contributor in the benefits group and maintains a high level of integrity and confidentiality in performing his or her duties. The ideal candidate will be primarily responsible for benefits communication and wellness initiatives, but may also perform responsibilities related to benefits administration, benefits analysis, and overall HR communication as well.
In this role, the specialist will be part of a dynamic and talented team of professionals. He or she will work with the Benefits team to support benefits communication and general HR communication efforts as needed. They will work collaboratively with the benefits team, benefits consultants, field HR staff and office of general counsel to understand and effectively communicate benefits-related information to employees. The ideal candidate will design and implement a benefits communication strategy and plan, as well as a branded wellness program, coordinate with IT and other key employees to leverage web-based communication vehicles and identify and integrate technology to improve overall internal communications.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the benefits team, benefits consultants, field HR staff and office of general counsel to understand and effectively communicate benefits-related information to employees.
- Design and implement a benefits communications strategy and plan.
- Develop and implement wellness initiatives.
- Identify promising “Best Places to Work” designations and spearhead participation for those applications.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of benefit guidelines and programs.
- Develop, write and edit benefit informational materials for use by employees, retirees and field HR employees.
- Quickly respond to fast breaking benefit changes with tactical communications
- Work with IT and other key employees to leverage web-based communication vehicles
- Identify and integrate technology that will increase the effectiveness and timeliness of internal communications
- Work with the other members of the HR team to support overall HR communications
- May assist Learning Development with communication and training materials.
- Flex to assist other members of the benefits team during high volume periods, such as open enrollment.
- Must stay current on new developments in employee communications
- Participate in the open enrollment process through preparation of communication materials for active employees and retirees.
- Assist in the drafting and updating of HR procedural guides.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related discipline or equivalent experience, with a minimum of five years professional experience in human resources or benefits required.
- Must have experience with web-based communication vehicles
- Comprehensive, working knowledge of benefits programs and benefits administration including COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, ERISA, FSA, ACA
- Must have experience communicating to all levels of employees using varied communication vehicles.
- Proficient with Microsoft office suite and Adobe PDF editing tools
- Comfortable working with PeopleSoft HRMS
