Job Summary:

As one of the world's largest philanthropies, HHMI is a major force in advancing biomedical research and science education in the U.S. We have an opportunity for an Associate Web Applications Developer - Sharepoint/.NET to join our headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD. As the Associate Web Applications Developer, you will be a part of a dynamic and talented team of professional serving society. You will develop, extend, and support primarily SharePoint 2010/2013 and .NET applications. Work with the development team to analyze requirements, develop web-based or mobile solutions, support SharePoint sites, and improve integration between enterprise-level systems.The ideal candidate should possess a strong desire to learn in a complex professional software engineering environment, be technology savvy, a team player, and have a basic understanding of web application development.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Develop and deploy Web applications using .NET and SharePoint technologies.
- Research and test new technologies, expand understanding of Microsoft’s development stack.
- Provide technical support and input to other Web application developers.
- Provide focus in collaborative problem solving - identify key technical issues and provide perspective when required.
- Provide administrative support for SharePoint, including involvement during upgrades, application migration, database connectivity and front-end configuration.
- Provide back-up support for additional technical systems.
- Liaise with other IT teams to resolve issues.
- Support leading edge initiatives that enhance the role of information technology at HHMI, as part of multidisciplinary team
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Develop and deploy Web applications using .NET and SharePoint technologies.
- Research and test new technologies, expand understanding of Microsoft’s development stack.
- Provide technical support and input to other Web application developers.
- Provide focus in collaborative problem solving - identify key technical issues and provide perspective when required.
- Provide administrative support for SharePoint, including involvement during upgrades, application migration, database connectivity and front-end configuration.
- Provide back-up support for additional technical systems.
- Liaise with other IT teams to resolve issues.
- Support leading edge initiatives that enhance the role of information technology at HHMI, as part of multidisciplinary team
- Prefer experience with the SharePoint platform, Web services, and HTML/CSS, XML, SQL, and JavaScript/AJAX.
- Strong passion of development and desire to advance programming and IT skills.
- Knowledge of source control systems like Visual Source Safe, TFS, Git, or SVN.
- Understanding of user and group-based security models in LDAP and Active Directory.
- An understanding of color, design, web functionality, web navigation, and usability concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to be a strong team member and individual contributor.
- Requires ability to multitask and be responsive to support issues while working on larger projects.
- Excellent skills in oral and written communication.
- Excellent judgment skills required due to possible use of confidential data
- Ability to solve complex application problems through analysis, experience, research and technical detective work, and problem solving.
