Research Abstract
Job Summary:
At the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), creativity and excellence are fundamental to our success. As one of the world's largest philanthropies, HHMI is a major force in advancing biomedical research and science education in the U.S. and beyond. We have an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate to join the Chang laboratory at UC Berkeley in Berkeley, CA.
We are seeking a highly creative, motivated, and skilled Postdoctoral Associate in the area of Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology to study the roles of transition metals in neuronal signal transduction, synaptic function, and neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will apply his/her knowledge in molecular biology and neuroscience to unravel mechanisms of transition metal signaling using cultured cells and slices as well as transgenic mouse models.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Initiate molecular and physiology studies of newly developed murine models of metal misregulation, as well as pharmacological manipulations of wild-type models, at the cell and slice level.
- Apply newly developed small-molecule and genetically encodable fluorescent reporters to live-cell and tissue imaging and flow cytometry assays in these models.
- Collaborate with and train junior co-workers in basic molecular biology techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong background and publication record in molecular and cellular neurobiology
- Expertise in murine primary dissociated and slice culture and imaging techniques
- Electrophysiology expertise is a plus
