Job Summary:

We have an opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to join one of our laboratories at New York University in New York, NY.
In this role, you will manage the day-to-day operations of a research laboratory (~18 postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and technicians) working in molecular biology, immunology and virology. You will act as liaison between the lab, HHMI, and host institution on issues involving budget management, fixed asset inventory, and purchasing. General duties include: budget and spending oversight; cost analyses of research projects, oversight and maintenance of essential equipment, purchasing materials and supplies, and delegating responsibilities among laboratory technicians.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Directing the mouse genotyping, breeding, and embryo/sperm freezing program for the laboratory to ensure efficient and cost-effective management of large mouse genetic program
- Working with investigator to direct students and postdoctoral fellow on their individual projects to ensure efficient utilization of resources
- Oversee management of the laboratory plasmid and cell line inventories
- Train students and technicians in a variety of laboratory procedures
- Supervise the lab assistants and technicians to maintain organization and smooth running of the lab
- Assist postdoctoral fellows with experiments in molecular biology, immunology, and virology
- Manage lab safety programs and train and monitor laboratory members as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. in Biological or Natural Sciences; minimum 5 years related technician or laboratory management experience
- Candidate must be self-motivated, energetic and able to work in a diverse laboratory environment
- Excellent organizational, communication, computer and record-keeping skills
- Extensive experience in Molecular Biology (DNA and RNA isolation, molecular cloning, library construction, Southern and Northern blots, PCR, recombinant protein expression and purification) and mammalian cell culture (transfections, retroviral transductions, reporter assays) or mouse genetics (mouse breeding, genotyping, phenotyping by immunohistochemistry and FACS screening)
- Experience with management of large and diverse mouse colonies is especially desired
