Job Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Learning & Organizational Development Manager to join our headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD.
HHMI is a unique organization with three distinct elements that are represented geographically: headquarters (Chevy Chase, MD campus), Janelia Farm (Ashburn, VA campus), and field operations (affiliated with 70 distinct campuses across the U.S.).
The Learning & Organizational Development (OD) Manager develops and implements effective strategies and initiatives for learning and development that creates a model for all of HHMI, encompassing leadership development for managers and professional development and learning that enhances and continuously improves the skills, competencies, and expected performance of HHMI staff. In this key role, he/she will be responsible for an array of learning and organizational development areas including but not limited to, leadership and employee development, team development, change management, performance management, succession planning, regional educational programs.
Principal Responsibilities:
- The Learning & OD Manger will work with key levels of management to create and implement workforce and succession plans, leadership development and effective utilization of talent to ensure an adequate talent pipeline. He/she will proactively identify and address change management initiatives and develop and implement plans to address key organizational needs.
- Leads the creation and development of an organizational learning strategy.
- Assesses training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers to create training programs that meet customer needs. Develops and implements learning and performance improvement curriculums. Develops, maintains, and distributes training aids such as instructional material, handouts, evaluation forms, and visual aids to support training curriculum.
- Develops and uses analytics, statistics, metrics and trends to evaluate the effectiveness of training and development programs.
- Drives the performance evaluation/management calendar
- Guides, coaches and supports staff and managers on the performance management system to ensure that they are used to enhance and where needed improve employee performance.
- Develop and maintain performance management tools and aids to assist managers with staff development and ongoing performance improvement.
- Develops and uses analytics, statistics, metrics and trends to evaluate the performance management system.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in HR management, Business Administration, Adult Learning/Education or a related field is required. Masters degree in Learning/Development, Organizational Development, or a related field is preferred.
- Five + years experience in organizational learning and development, change management, performance management initiatives and adult learning in a corporate environment. Experience designing and delivering supervisory and management/leadership development programs is strongly preferred.
- Experience in group facilitation, coaching and leading teams/organizations in performance improvement strategies that result in higher performance.
- Experience in the design and implementation of formal and informal learning strategies that drive business results, including action learning and visual learning.
- Must have a consultative, customer service, relationship building approach and the highest level of professionalism and discretion.
- Excellent presentation and customer facing skills across a wide variety of audiences, including town hall setting, training, team meetings, and one-on-one briefings.
- Project management and/or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Extensive adult learning curriculum design and delivery in the areas of leadership and employee development. Curriculum design background includes classroom and e-learning; utilize appropriate measurements and metrics for training activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and a high degree of initiative
- Excellent analytical, written, and oral communications skills required. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff, managers, and various stakeholders required.
- Takes ownership and strives for flawless execution. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in partnership with various stakeholders. Is an effective decision maker who takes initiative.
