A small group of researchers wants science to come out from behind closed doors, and they are exploiting a variety of Web-based means to help it do just that.

Consider Brain Windows, a blog launched in 2006 by Andrew Hires to track and discuss advances in brain-imaging technologies. "Mostly, blogs are an easy way to communicate and distribute knowledge"—a postdoc in Loren Looger's lab at HHMI's Janelia Farm Research Campus.
