A hotel ballroom in Cambridge, Massachusetts, offers a snapshot of a rapidly changing world. It's 10:30 on a sunny but brisk New England morning, and the double doors won't open for another half hour. Already, a line of 100 people snakes down the hallway, past several meeting rooms, all the way to the escalators.
