One reason most of us don't get cancer is that we are endowed with 
tumor suppressor genes. Until recently, scientists believed these 
genes operated through proteins that put the brakes on cell growth, thus preventing cancer's development.

Now scientists realize that some tumor suppressor genes do not produce proteins at all. Instead, they make tiny snippets of RNA, called “microRNAs.”
