A couple of weeks before Christmas 2005...

For 10 days she had been running a fever, coughing, and waking up at night drenched in sweat. An x-ray had revealed fluid in her lungs, and doctors prescribed an antibiotic to cure what they thought was a case of pneumonia. But she wasn’t getting any better.
