Poster: HIV Life Cycle and Drug Targets

Summary

The poster from the 2007 Holiday Lectures on Science, AIDS: Evolution of an Epidemic. It shows each stage of the HIV life cycle and highlights points in the cycle that have been targeted by anti-retroviral drugs.

HIV attacks and destroys an important class of white blood cells called helper T cells. Helper T cells normally coordinate the immune response by stimulating the activity of other components of the immune system to respond to foreign invaders. Many classes of drugs have been developed to attack HIV at different stages of its life cycle. This poster shows the HIV life cycle and various stages of that cycle that can be targeted by anti-retroviral drugs.
