Topic
Duration
00:11:08Description
This video describes two methods for developing transgenic mice to study human genetic diseases.
A transgenic animal carries a foreign gene that has been deliberately inserted into its genome. The video shows two methods for developing transgenic mice. The first method involves injecting the desired gene into the pronucleus of a fertilized mouse egg. The second method involves transforming embryonic stem cells by homologous recombination with the desired DNA.
This clip comes from a 2003 Holiday Lecture Series, Learning from Patients: The Science of Medicine.
