Genomics and Humanity: Science Fiction Perspectivesscifithumb

By Joan Slonczewski

Will genomics revolutionize medicine? Will it change our humanity? Will people be genetically engineered to live forever? Or will the cost of molecular medicine bankrupt our society? These questions intrigue many science fiction writers and readers.

The novels and films described here address these questions in three categories: the social context of discovery in molecular biology; the prospect of creating altered life forms; and the future of a bioengineered society. Each entry is accompanied by discussion questions for teachers, students, and other readers.
