(Duration: 1 hr 28 min 24 sec)

Leading evolution educator Ken Miller discusses the controversy surrounding the teaching of evolution, presents compelling evidence for evolution and reasons why "intelligent design" is not scientific. The presentation also features Dr. Miller's responses to questions from a live audience of high school students.

"Ken Miller's lecture, Evolution: Fossils, Genes, and Mousetraps has two segments I use to reduce some students' anxiety when it comes to learning about evolution. In chapters 14 and 27 of the lecture, Miller explains how he reconciles his religious faith with evolution. The five minutes or so it takes to explain the central role of evolution in biology and show these two clips can be time well spent at the beginning of a course. It shows students that science and religion need not be in conflict, gives students a 'place to stand' if they are experiencing conflict, and it communicates your respect for students' beliefs. I find that this allows students to be more receptive to lessons on evolution."
– Bob Cooper (Pennsbury High School, PA)
