Gull Island, on the southern side of Kachemak Bay, harbors a remarkable colony of seabirds. Kittiwakes, murres, gulls, cormorants, puffins and guillemots call the island home during the long summer days. Every year thousands of people travel by boat to the island, which is owned by the Seldovia Native Association, to witness the spectacle of nesting seabirds. How many birds do you think live on Gulf Island in the summer?

Using equipment designed and built by a local company, SeeMore Wildlife Systems, the Pratt Museum installed four video cameras on the island. The cameras are connected through a sophisticated solar-powered microwave transmission system to controls and a viewing center in the museum. The video clips on this and the next five pages are drawn from footage gathered by the Gull Island cameras.
