HHMI supports approximately 500 of the world’s most innovative scientists located at major universities and research institutions across the United States. Our research programs and grants support people, not projects, giving our scientists the benefit of long-term funding and the freedom to follow their scientific intuition. They are expected to be trailblazers who venture into uncharted territory and tackle difficult, fundamental research questions that may take years to answer.
As one of the nation’s largest private funders of science education, we also pave the way for tomorrow’s biomedical discoveries. Our educational grants and fellowships provide funding for students, from high school through advanced training, and our educational materials and teaching tools are available to everyone, free of charge.
Through our investments, HHMI seeks to ensure that scientific discovery will continue to be an engine that drives human progress.
